At least 27 people including part of the regional leadership of the Congress Party Indian, were killed in an attack of great political significance committed by Maoist rebels and training leaders described as assault on democracy. The assault was perpetrated on Saturday against a political caravan returning after a rally in the city of Jagdalpur, in the central state of Chhattisgarh, when rebelsdetonated a mine and a group between 150 and 250 Maoists fired at the vehicles, local agency PTI. Moreover, at least 32 people were injured , said Director General of Police Ram Niwas. The head of the Party Congress in Chhattisgarh, Nand Kumar Patel,and his son were killed in the attack, after being abducted yesterday and their bodies were found this morning in Bastar district, a stronghold of the Maoists. The dead also included Mahendra Karma, a veteran of political education and creator in 2005 of a paramilitary anti-Maoist movement , the Salwa Judum or "peace march", declared illegal by the Supreme Court, and Uday Mudaliar, state exlegislador. The former minister Vidya Charan Shukla state is in critical condition after being hit by several bullets and was taken a hospital in New Delhi, according to PTI.
